The relationship between stressors, leisure coping, and health have received increasing attention in leisure research, with past literature indicating that stressors and leisure coping predict good health. However, how the relationships between these factors vary depending on socio-demographic factors is still unknown. The purpose of this study is to test two predictive models. The first model examines the impacts of life stress, leisure friendships, and leisure autonomy on healthy quality of life, as tested in past research. The second model examines the impact of marital status on the structural relationships between the study constructs mentioned above, as proposed but not tested in previous research. A total of 276 Taichung residents completed an on-site questionnaire. Consistent with existing evidence, the results support the first model in which life stress and leisure coping (i.e., leisure friendships, leisure autonomy) appear to independently influence healthy quality of life. Interestingly, our results do not support the second model, indicating that the cross-group validation of the first model does not fit within marital status categories. These findings suggest that the complex relationships between stressors, leisure coping, and health depend on marital status.
